Behaviorism

Behaviorism’s impact on schools and train­ing has been tremen­dous. Many of us are prod­ucts of an edu­ca­tion sys­tem that sub­scribed pre­dom­i­nately to this school of psy­chol­ogy. It has only been recently that other schools of psy­chol­ogy have got­ten any seri­ous track­ing. This is not a crit­i­cism of Behav­ior­ism, in fact this school has served us well. Like any other pro­fes­sions it is impor­tant to explore other meth­ods, and to do that we should have an under­stand­ing of all the major schools of thought.

What is Behaviorism?

While this term is well-known in the edu­ca­tion world, what does it actu­ally mean? Behav­ior­ism is a school within psy­cho­log­i­cal that deals with learn­ing and per­son­al­ity.
When deal­ing with an organ­ism, be it human, mon­key, pigeon, rat, lawyer, etc…there are three components:

  • The stim­u­lus
  • The brain
  • The out­comes
